INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY AGENCIES

In response to the H1N1 flu virus pandemic, business and community agencies should ensure they have an up-to-date business or service continuity plan. This plan, which should include information on the appropriate human resources policies, will allow these organizations to work to maintain operations and critical services in the event supply chains become disrupted or employees are ill or at home to take care of friends or family.

Business/Service Continuity

In May 2006, Public Health, in collaboration with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, hosted a business continuity information session.  The session covered several pandemic-related topics, including: business/service continuity, legal and human resources implications and risk communication.  Click here for a copy of the presentations.  (Note: file is large - 2 MB).

The Region of Waterloo also developed a 'Tool Kit' for Business Continuity which is guide (or starting point) for local agencies and businesses as they begin to prepare for a pandemic event.  Click here for a copy of the 'Tool Kit' for Business Continuity.

In addition, the Public Health Agency of Canada has compiled a list of business/service continuity planning checklists and resources, including sources from the private sector. Click here to be directed to this comprehensive directory.
